Ok confession.
I've been afraid of spinach for a long time.
Like a looong time.

Sure I eat spinach and other greens in my salads all the time, but in something I'm going to drink?? Never. So the fact that I even tried this should shock and amaze you. And what is even more amazing is that I actually loved it! You literally cannot taste any spinach or leafy green remnant in this smoothie and it tastes super sweet without adding any additional sugar or sweetener!
I was floored.
This is the perfect way to get an extra dose of vegetables into your morning breakfast without even knowing they're there. It only takes 10 minutes out of your morning (and even less if you pre-chop everything the night before) and you get a delicious healthy drink packed with nutrients that I promise will change the way you start your day. The combination of kiwi, pineapple, banana and orange completely mask the flavor of the spinach, while the Greek yogurt and chia seeds give this a creamy yet great texture.

Love it and I love that you've got chia seeds in there. Those babies are gold!
I tried a spinach smoothie not too long ago and I was surprised that I couldn't taste the spinach either! Although--the banana taste was really strong and I only used 1/2 of it! Any suggestions on another fruit?

Kristen you can find chia seeds at Trader Joes, Whole Foods or Wegmans! :) Cindy, the other fruits in this really over power the banana, but it would definitely still taste great using half of it!
I'm intrigued most of all.... after all it's green! But I'm so tempted...
I've been obsessed with smoothies lately and was also surprised to find that you definitely cannot taste the spinach when you add it! May have to add this one to my smoothie rotation!
Sounds wonderful!
So pretty! Sounds like a refreshing treat. Perfect morning smoothie!
I loooveee adding spinach in my smoothies :)
Do you ever find that the chia seeds make the smoothie super jello-y (if that's even a word) but do you know what I am saying?
Love all the ingredients you used, Kelly! How funny that I've come to love that monster green color of smoothies - it looks so delicious to me! :D
Looks super yummy :)
I started drinking green smoothies a couple months ago, glad you're on board! Chia seeds are SO good for you, but really expensive. A cheaper alternative is flaxseed...cheaper and still incredibly good for you. What kind of a blender did you use?
I've been wanting to try a smoothie w/spinach! I've seen them all over the place but the whole drinking spinach thing really freaked me out.... I'll trust you though.. :) as long as the pineapple and kiwi mask it Im all about this smoothie! Looks super healthy!
Oooh this looks delicious! I hadn't heard of Chia seeds before and am writing about my discovery, thanks to you, on my blog! You can really only get them online here in the UK (or in one chain of health food shops), so they're pretty new and unheard of so far!
I shall definitely be trying this recipe out though and look for new was to add in Chia to our diet!

I haven't tried chia seeds. Do you add it for flavor or for the health benefits?

Drinking green smoothies out of mason jars and with fun straws is really the only way to go :)
...and it comes with an adorable pink straw! ;) I will have to try this out because now I'm so curious about the lack of spinach-y taste. Greek yogurt is awesome in smoothies!
Why does everyone post their smoothie pictures in jars o.o?
The trick to a spinach drink is fresh pineapple! Cuts the spinach taste right out!
Try this:
handful of spinach
1 cup of water {or more to consistency}
1/3 of a fresh pineapple
1 nectarine
1 pear
Seriously my FAVORITE green drink by far!!!!
This definitely is something for me to try!
This might be a silly question, but do you peel the Kiwi or keep the skin on it? :)
I have been on a smoothie kick lately, so looking forward to trying this. Raw Oats is nice in a smoothie as well!!
Thanks for sharing Xx

Chia seeds have the advantage in a smoothie of being a natural thickener. I also used frozen, chopped spinach instead of fresh. Not only is it easier, but it makes it nice and cold and also helps thicken it.
