Gold Cup 2012

So you know my favorite thing about spring??  Sundresses!  And what better place to show of brand new dresses than Gold Cup.  It's basically like a big fancy tailgate where all the girls rock big hats and the guys show off their bow ties and suspenders while watching all the horse races.  Remember my post last year?  Well it's my absolute favorite event of the year and this year just so happened to fall on Cinco de Mayo!

Yes that means beer-garitas were involved.

So I thought I'd share a few pictures from this past weekend, let you swoon over our gorgeous weather, yummy food and adorable outfits.  Our plot had about 25 of our friends and coincidentally our other friends who were going randomly had the spot right next to us!  It was the perfect day with the best people and I already can't wait til next year!

Skinny beer-garitas and my favorite Mexican corn dip!
C'mon we had to keep it somewhat fiesta-like.

I made these fruit skewers too which are super easy and make for the perfect summer appetizer!  They also look so pretty on your table and is a simple, but elegant way to present your fruit.

Isn't my friend Cassie just a doll??
I just adore her.

And yes there were ice luges.
We kept it classy.

Hopefully someday I can actually make it to the Kentucky Derby where I know those ladies go ALL out!  But for now, I look forward to going to Gold Cup each year and you can bet I'm already planning my outfit.

Did anyone else from the DC area head out there this weekend??
I'd love to hear about it!

Hi there!

i live in the DC area and had wanted to go to the Gold Cup this year so badly! Looks like it was a lot of fun. I had gone to a steeplechase race earlier in April out at Oatlands Plantation and had so much fun too. Sadly, we didn't have beer-garitas (which sound amazing by the way!)

Hey Kelly!

I just found your blog, and I'm so glad I did. You are adorable, and I am loving all of your skinny cocktail recipes! I'm in the DC area too, but I opted to stay in town this weekend. I went to the gold cup last year though, so much fun.

Hope you're having a great day!

xoxo

I live in Northern VA too, but sadly did not know anyone going to Gold Cup :(

I think I'm going to have to organize my own trip next year - this looks like so much fun!

Loved the pics!! I've been to the Gold Cup a couple of times and have always had a blast. However, I am from Louisville, Ky (moved here 5 yrs ago) so the KY Derby was something I went to every year for 5 years in a row! It is definitely the craziest, most fun thing and I think EVERYONE should go at least once! Especially into the infield where all the partying takes place! I hope you can make there one day soon!

Just found this blog and am diggin the recipe's. Made the orange bread and it's fab. Gonna try the enchiladas tomorrow night. I live in Louisville and work in radio, so I have been fortunate enough to go to the derby the past few years and it is definitely something to do if you get the chance. Infield, grandstands, media center, to millionaires row. It's all just a different version of fabulous fun!

Sounds like so much fun. Who can resist a party that requires a big hat? And, the weather does look gorgeous.
